04 · RATIONALEWhy this setup fits your use case
Choosing the right LED videowall is a balance between viewing distance, the kind of content you want to show, ambient lighting, and of course budget. Here is why we recommended this specific configuration for your project.
Your content & application
—
Viewing distance & pixel pitch
The smaller the pixel pitch, the closer a viewer can stand before noticing individual pixels. Below is the relationship between pitch and comfortable viewing distance — your selection is highlighted.
| Pixel pitch | Min. comfortable distance | Typical application |
|---|---|---|
| P0.9 | ≈ 1.0 m | Control rooms, camera walls, very close viewing |
| P1.2 | ≈ 1.5 m | Boardrooms, premium meeting rooms, studios |
| P1.5 | ≈ 1.8 m | Meeting rooms, corporate lobbies, retail |
| P1.8 | ≈ 2.2 m | Signage, auditoria, large retail spaces |
05 · ALTERNATIVESPremium, selected, or budget
Many customers like to see their options side by side. Below is your chosen configuration surrounded by a premium upgrade and a budget‑friendly alternative, so you can judge where your sweet spot really is.
06 · TECHNOLOGYUnderstanding Hikvision GEN5
GEN5 is Hikvision's fifth‑generation direct‑view LED (dvLED) platform. It is designed around a single cabinet chassis of 600 × 337.5 mm with interchangeable lampboards, so the same mechanical hardware supports a wide range of pitches and LED technologies. You can even mix pitches on the same project.
Three LED technologies are available across the GEN5 range. Each has its own sweet spot — we recommend the best fit for your specific application.
Surface‑Mounted Device
The reliable workhorse: individual R‑G‑B LED packages soldered onto the board. Excellent colour fidelity, mature technology, the most cost‑effective way to deploy large surfaces.
Hybrid On Board
A flip‑chip technology where tiny LED chips are embedded directly into the substrate and covered with a protective resin layer. Ruggedised surface, higher contrast, lower power, fewer individual failures.
Chip On Board
The premium category. Chips are bonded directly to the PCB and encapsulated into a single monolithic surface. No separate LED packages, no visible seams, extremely high contrast and colour depth.
06b · CONTROLLERSHow the video processor distributes pixels over your wall
A GEN5 controller receives your video sources (HDMI, DisplayPort, SDI or IP streaming) and distributes the resulting pixels over the cabinets of your wall through dedicated LAN output channels. Which controller you need depends on how many sources you want to show, how many pixels your wall contains, and whether you need multi-window layouts with scaling.
- 2 LAN output channels
- Max. ~2.6M pixels (single 4K UHD)
- 1 main source, optional PiP
- Plug-and-play, no scaling
- Ideal for signage, lobbies, small meeting rooms
- 6 LAN output channels
- Max. ~7.9M pixels
- Multi-source (HDMI / DP / SDI)
- PiP, PoP, windowing, HDR10
- Ideal for boardrooms, control rooms
- 20 LAN output channels
- Max. ~13M pixels (8K-ready)
- Up to 8 simultaneous sources
- 16 independent windows, genlock
- Ideal for studios, auditoria, large signage
Single-source flow — C-series
One PC or media player connects directly to the C-controller over HDMI. The controller distributes the image to the wall over 2 LAN output channels. Simple, reliable, no configuration overhead.
Multi-source flow with window splitting — V / P-series
Multiple sources — for example a camera feed, a PowerPoint and a live dashboard — come into the V/P processor. The processor arranges them in windows (PiP/PoP), scales them, and distributes the pixels over up to 20 LAN output channels. Each channel feeds a group of cabinets.

08b · POWER & NETWORKHow your wall is fed and signalled
Based on your cabinet grid and chosen controller, we estimate the dedicated 230V power groups required at the screen location and the number of LAN output channels the controller will use to drive the wall. These numbers are indicative for the quotation request — the certified installation partner will validate them on-site.
Dedicated 230V power groups
230V · 16A · 80% usable capacity (NEN1010)
LAN output channels
~650,000 pixels per gigabit LAN channel @ 60 Hz
⚠ Indicative: peak draw assumes worst-case white-field at 100% brightness; typical content averages ~50% of that. The partner's on-site survey determines the final power layout, phase balance and cable routing.

10 · WARRANTYYour peace of mind
Every Hikvision GEN5 LED videowall comes with a strong baseline warranty on lampboards, cabinets and controllers. Extended warranty options are available through your certified partner and can be bundled with a service contract.
What is covered
Manufacturing defects of lampboards, cabinets, power supplies, receiver cards and controllers under normal operating conditions as specified in the datasheet. Hot‑pixel failure threshold: < 0.0003% over the warranty period. Dead‑pixel replacement is handled by the certified partner, typically on the next business day for stocked pitches.
What is not covered
Physical damage, transport damage outside of the delivered packaging, installation by non‑certified parties, operation outside of rated voltage, temperature or humidity ranges, unauthorised modification, water ingress when not rated for such, and damage from force majeure (lightning, flooding, fire). Image retention from static content running longer than the recommended cycle is excluded — we recommend screen‑saver or rotation cycles for 24/7 static content.
How to claim
Warranty is claimed through your Hikvision certified partner using the product serial numbers (visible on the rear of every cabinet). Average turn‑around from claim to replacement lampboard on‑site: 48 hours for stocked pitches (P1.2 – P1.8), up to 5 working days for fine pitches. A short on‑site diagnosis template and your serial numbers will be provided at commissioning.
Full warranty conditions are described in Hikvision Commercial Display Warranty Policy, available on request from your partner. In case of conflict between this summary and the formal document, the formal document prevails.
11 · CERTIFIED PARTNER NETWORKYou don't buy from us — you buy from someone we trust
Hikvision believes that a premium LED videowall is only as good as the people who install and maintain it. That is why we do not sell directly to end customers. Every Hikvision GEN5 project in the Benelux goes through a certified system integrator who has been trained, audited and equipped to deliver the full lifecycle: from site survey to commissioning to years of reliable service.
Why this matters to you
A LED videowall is not plug‑and‑play. Wall loading, ventilation, power balancing, colour calibration, source routing and long‑term content management all have subtle trade‑offs. 12 · PROCESSFrom this document to a live videowall
From the moment you agree to move forward with a certified partner, a typical GEN5 project takes between four and eight weeks, depending on pitch availability and the complexity of the installation. Here is what you can expect.
Site survey & final configuration
Your Hikvision contact matches you with a certified partner. The partner visits your site, measures the wall, assesses mounting, ambient light, power availability, network and signal sources, and confirms the exact cabinet grid.
Binding offer & sign‑off
Based on the survey, the partner issues a formal, binding quotation including hardware, installation, commissioning and any optional services such as an extended warranty or a service contract.
Manufacturing & logistics
Cabinets and lampboards are produced in the matching production run, factory‑calibrated as a batch, and shipped to the partner's warehouse. Stocked pitches (P1.2 – P1.8) can often ship within a week.
Sub‑frame & infrastructure
The partner prepares the mounting frame, any civil works, and the power and signal cabling so the wall is ready to receive the cabinets when they arrive.
Cabinet installation & commissioning
Cabinets are aligned to within 0.1 mm, power and signal are verified, and the screen is calibrated as one continuous surface. Signal sources are tested end‑to‑end.
Training, documentation & go‑live
You receive a brief operator training session, as‑built documentation, serial number list and warranty start date. The screen goes live with your content.
13 · SERVICE & SPARESLong‑term support, close by
The most common question about any LED videowall is "what happens in year three when a lampboard fails?" — so let us be direct about the answer.
Spare parts in the Benelux
Common pitches (P1.2, P1.5, P1.8) are held as rolling stock at the Benelux distribution hub. A replacement lampboard is typically at your partner's warehouse within 24 hours, and on‑site within 48 hours.
Front‑serviceable cabinets
Every GEN5 cabinet can be opened from the front. A single magnetised lampboard takes less than five minutes to swap — no scaffolding, no wall removal, no content interruption for the surrounding lampboards.
Remote diagnostics
The controller reports temperature, voltage, signal integrity and per‑lampboard status back to Hikvision's diagnostic tool. In many cases, a failing lampboard is identified and dispatched before you notice.
Service contracts
Your certified partner can bundle a service contract on top of the standard warranty: scheduled preventive maintenance, calibration refresh, SLA options (NBD / 8h / 4h), and priority access to replacement stock.
14 · SUSTAINABILITYDesigned to last, designed to be repaired
A LED videowall is a long‑term investment — the best sustainability story is the one where the screen is still running ten years from now. GEN5 is engineered around that principle.
